Hey-

There's something I've been wondering, and you two are the best people I can ask, because I know you're both sentimental about Sirius for different (albeit related) reasons.

Ellie leaped in front of Sirius so he could live, and near as I can tell, that's the only reason he's here now.

Are you glad about that? I mean, I know you aren't happy Ellie's dead, obviously, but when it comes right down to it, would you rather she be dead and Sirius be alive, instead of the reverse?

Was that all about? For those of you who weren't in Professor Raz's dueling session this afternoon, Millie and Daphne had some kind of row that ended with Daphs in a fury and Millie's face all purple and bulging. It looked she'd been dipped in a pot of porphyry fruit jam. Ugh, hopefully there won't be any porphyry tarts at supper tonight. I don't think I could stomach them after that.

I'm dead confused, I don't mind saying. Is this some kind of pent-up Yule Ball aggression coming out? Daphs can be a pretty wicked duelist but she's typically more controlled than that, and certainly pretty forgiving of Millie - no matter what she does.

Did you know that Cho Chang was seeing Cedric Diggory? I didn't. Trouble is, neither did Harry. So to make a massively long and complicated story more manageable:

Harry asked Cho to the Ball.
Cho said Yes.
Harry found out that Cho only said Yes because he's Harry Mavolo.
Harry found out that Cho fancies Cedric and vice-verse.
Harry suggests that Cho go to the Ball with Cedric instead (response pending).
Harry asks me who he should ask if Cho wants to go with Cedric.
Hydra and Millie are ruled out. For different reasons. As is Parvati.
Brocklehurst is pondered as an option.
Which is where you come in.

Do you think Mandy Brocklehurst would want to go with Harry? I reckon you know her a bit from those strange tea events that you go to every so often. Is she still without a date or has someone asked her since I posted my list last night?

I was surprised to read the Head Girl's announcement about bullying, as I haven't noticed any behaviour that's more out of line from what we usually see at Hogwarts. But apparently others have noticed, which is unfortunate, given that we currently have guests whose impression of Hogwarts matters a great deal to some of us. Now that such a bright glaring light has been shined on the matter, we can only hope that it will soon die down.

If there are any first-year or visiting students who want to test out their spellcasting skills in an approved environment, they ought to consider attending duelling club on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Also, the NEWT students have duelling club on the first and third Tuesday, and they don't usually mind having an audience. Some of them have developed some dead impressive wand-work, too, which means it can be quite a show some nights.

So yeah, haven't seen this so-called bullying, but I have seen what Krum's been enduring. Last night I was on my way show him and some of the other Durmstrang students our quidditch trophies, when Marjoram Montague and Effie Stevens literally leapt out of the Armour Gallery while waving Bulgarian pennants and shouting the Bulgarian fight song. They had also charmed their hair to be white blond for some reason...to look like Veela? That's all I can figure, though they were just a bit far off on the resemblance.

It was possibly the most hideous spectacle I have ever witnessed. We all had our wands out in an instant - that's just what you do when someone jumps out from behind a suit of armour - and their faces went utterly white. And then when they saw Krum's expression - well, they figured out right quick that not a single one of us was amused. Stevens burst into tears and went wailing in the other direction, and Montague muttered an apology before scurrying off the same way. And then I had to apologise to Krum for their antics.

If people would stop being idiots being so ridiculous in the first place, we'd all be better off. Hopefully there won't be any incidents like that this weekend.

And speaking of - Harry and I will probably help with the set up after supper. Anyone else from CCF interesting in joining?

Father,

A lot of people have seen the Prophet's evening edition tonight, and so have I.

I wanted to write to Mother straight away, but then I thought I should ask you, first. Tell me the truth: how is she faring?

Your son,
Draco

It's been a full week back, that's to be said. Along with all the talk about the Triwizard announcement, a lot of people have been asking me if I can teach them to speak French. All I can say to that is that if I had that kind of free time, I'd be some kind of professor or something. But for those of you that already have SOME kind of conversational knowledge of the language, I was thinking of forming a weekend afternoon group where we can just practise talking to each other while drinking tea or something. I'm a bit rusty myself, but when she was here I spoke to my Aunt Amanda almost entirely in French, so I've already gotten some good practise in in the last few weeks.

Along those lines, me and the lads on the Slytherin quidditch team have agreed that it'll be important to keep up with our flying, even with quidditch cancelled for the year. If any of the other house teams want to arrange some impromptu pick-up matches, talk to me or Harry or anyone else on the Slytherin team.

Has anyone else noticed how much nicer the food is at school, compared to last year? The elves must have stepped up their efforts, now that we'll be hosting guests. Or maybe they're getting better food and ingredients - anyway, something's definitely different.

I told Blaise I was going to rest before lunch was over, but since you're still out there I'll just write this now, before we get too busy to discuss it. Plus I don't want any of those CCF officials to overhear us.

Don't you think it's a bit funny that they haven't chosen either of us to be team leaders yet? And since pretty much everyone always picks us both together (guess they're afraid we'll be hacked if we get split up, or something), I'd bet a load of galleons that the plan is to end the whole training session by having us square off against each other. What do you reckon?

Pansy,

Are you free to go out this Saturday evening? Dirty Cauldron Jones is doing a gig at Hammersmith Apollo at 9, and Moth I should be able to get us a table at Portico for dinner beforehand. They have outside seating right on the Thames. The menu's well posh but the atmosphere's supposed to be fairly relaxed. What do you think?

Hey Daphs,

You spent some time practising the play with Ginny Weasley, didn't you? She was your understudy, if I recall.

What sort of person is she, then?
alt_draco: (warily watchful)
Is it true?
alt_draco: (politely perturbed)
I've been thinking since duelling club, and even though Raz taught that stuff to you, Harry, so you'd feel more prepared if some mad person ever tried to hurt you, he must have shown it to the whole club for a reason, yeah? When he said it was especially effective against someone unpredictable, who can't be reasoned with by any other means--well, I immediately thought of the Carrows. And in his message to me my Father also said that we should be prepared to defend ourselves, against the Carrows, you know. He mentioned shield spells and the like, which are good, but they can only do so much, can't they?

I think we should keep practising combination combatives on our own time. Us three especially, because the Carrows have decided that they hate us, for some reason. I'm sure Sally Anne would want to learn more, too, and almost all the rest of the Slytherins in our year are interested enough in it that they'd want to join in, even if they don't feel personally threatened. I might tell Padma and Finnigan, too, cos they might want to organise something similar within their own houses. I'm not sure whether I should bother with Smith or Macmillan, though. They didn't seem to think anything was amiss on Monday, did they? Who ever thought we'd see the day when Hufflepuff would be the least put-upon house.

Anyway, let me know what you think.
alt_draco: (woefully worried)
Father,

Did you see what Professor Carrow wrote? About plucking peacock chicks?

I am fairly certain he's talking about me.

Advise on how to proceed would be appreciated.

Draco
alt_draco: (carefully cautious)
Mother, are you feeling better? I really was just spots, wasn't it? That's what Regulus said but then I keep thinking about how you were writing and it sort of looked the way a paralysed person might write. But you must be all right, or else Father would have let me know right away.

One thing I have been talking about with my Father is whether I should get a new mudblood or not. I'm allowed to have one to replace Dennis but after thinking about it I don't think I want one. I never really used Dennis for anything useful, and that's really all he wanted, to be useful. Most of the things he did for me the house elves can do, anyway. And if I had another mudblood it would probably just get killed, too, or some other bad thing would happen to it because that seems to be what happens to them. I'd just rather not deal with all that.

Harry, don't forget what I said about keeping a close eye on Granger, because you don't want her to be next. Also we need her

Father?

I know I shouldn't of but you were taking so long at the booksellers and I just wanted to find a place where I could get something to drink, a boire, you know, and I walked too far and I don't know where I am! Only there's lots of muggles and some who weren't much older than me were calling me names in French and shoving me about. Oh they were horrid and

well now I'm hiding in a park and there's people sleeping on the benches. I don't know what to do please send someone to find me!
