Did you know that Cho Chang was seeing Cedric Diggory? I didn't. Trouble is, neither did Harry. So to make a massively long and complicated story more manageable:

Harry asked Cho to the Ball.
Cho said Yes.
Harry found out that Cho only said Yes because he's Harry Mavolo.
Harry found out that Cho fancies Cedric and vice-verse.
Harry suggests that Cho go to the Ball with Cedric instead (response pending).
Harry asks me who he should ask if Cho wants to go with Cedric.
Hydra and Millie are ruled out. For different reasons. As is Parvati.
Brocklehurst is pondered as an option.
Which is where you come in.


Do you think Mandy Brocklehurst would want to go with Harry? I reckon you know her a bit from those strange tea events that you go to every so often. Is she still without a date or has someone asked her since I posted my list last night?

This is all getting rather complicated!

I'm talking it out with Sally-Anne.

Mandy is sweet, sort of shy, but nice enough. She may have someone who is planning to ask her, though, I've got to make sure first.

I'm so glad we got everything sorted out the way we did.

Yeah. I guess I'm lucky that as soon as I heard there was a Ball, I knew straight-away who I wanted to ask as my date.

Too bad so many of the rest of them took their time being gormless twits.

Not Harry, I mean. But he didn't have to break his date with Chang either, for Merlin's sake. He could have told her to dance with Diggory and have a nice time and to just think of it as an outing between friends who... don't yet really know each other.

Daphs was put out that Weasley turned down her offer to find him a date - and she could have probably done a proper job of it, too. And Smith, well, he'll spend the night of the Ball alone with his fantasy quidditch manuals, or something.

Smith is an utter berk.

And you know Harry. He can be a bit stubborn sometimes. I'm not surprised he's trying to do what he thinks is best, even if it makes things difficult for him.

Yeah, I know. But then he ends up unhappy and frustrated, and he's so worried about not making anyone else upset that he forgets to make room for himself, too.

So, any word on Brocklehurst?

The latest word is that she's not quite free. I'll let you know if that changes.

Who else would be a good option? Any other third or fifth years?
Ginevra Weasley might still be open to going.

Or someone from Beauxbatons, that's always an option.

And Vicky Frobisher has a bit of a crush on Harry, she likes Quiddichers.

Well, there's Hydra's housemates, Stein and Bode, but they're attached at the hip - he'd probably have to ask both of them.

Frobisher... she has so many problems, I'm pretty sure Harry wouldn't want to go there.

Not sure who's left in the Beauxbatons lot. I'll ask around.

If Chang had told him about Diggory up front it might've stung, but he would have got over it. But these last few weeks he's been fancying her and not having a clue she was weeping in loos over Diggory.

That has to make it even worse.

From what little I know of Chang, she is a bit on the sensitive side, so I'd imagine this isn't the first cry-in-the-loo she's ever had. But yes, that can't have been pleasant to find out.

Hmm, I wouldn't have thought sensitive and weepy would be Harry's type. I think he fancied her just because she's a seeker, to be honest...though it's hard to tell with him, he doesn't talk about girls very much.

I suggested Sandoval, by the way. We'll see what he says.
