A little helpful service
Dec. 12th, 2011 05:51 pmSince I reckon a few blokes are going to be feeling a bit regretful that they took so long to open up their eyes to the fact that dancing is neither naff nor poncy, I figure it might be helpful if we compiled a list of people who are still without a date, just to make it easier for them to find one another, if they so choose.
Because get this: dancing with a girl is actually the opposite of poncy, as it so happens.
Year 4
Ron Weasley
Zacharias Smith
Katrina Bundy
Linus Moon
Mandy Brocklehurst
Seamus Finnigan
Daphne Greengrass*
Michael Corner
Gregory Goyle
Vincent Crabbe
Millicent Bulstrode
Theodore Nott
Year 5 (here's where things get murky, as I really only know about goings-on in Slytherin)
Erasmus Croaker
Troy Derwent
Jack Sloper
Horace Moon
Nerea Gray
Vicky Frobisher
Anthony Rickett
Ogden Begy
Year 6
Alfred Montague
Cassandra Calderwood
Miles Bletchley
Duncan Inglebee
Feodor Gallez
Geoffrey Hooper
Kenneth Towler
Year 7
Agnes Wright
Barnabas Bole
Josephina Gamp
Maxine O'Flaherty
Gemma Bundy
Faemarina Anderson
Herbert Fleet
Welhelmina Rigg
Horus Diggle
Russell Cadwadaller
Karoline Moon**
Penelope Clearwater**
* Daphs is only on the list as a technicality.
** Technically on the list, but disqualified as they're both seeing blokes who are already out of the school.
Who else have I missed? I didn't include third-years, but some of them might be available. If anyone knows about the students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, you can add their names here, too.

Private message to Draco
Date: 2011-12-13 01:55 am (UTC)Anyway if you have a chance to shove Greg in that direction I'm sure Milli would appreciate it.
Re: Private message to Draco
Date: 2011-12-13 02:00 am (UTC)I'll see if I can bludgeon some sense into Greg, but unfortunately he's under the influence of Vince, who's currently touting Smith's whole "dancing is for shirt-lifters" philosophy.
Re: Private message to Draco
Date: 2011-12-13 02:05 am (UTC)I don't know what's wrong with some boys. You're right, dancing with a girl (when you're a boy) is about the last poncy thing ever.
Re: Private message to Draco
Date: 2011-12-13 02:10 am (UTC)I reckon it depends on background and how you were raised. My parents went to dances and balls all the time when I was growing up, and I had to take classes in etiquette and deportment, which included dancing lessons. So it never seemed like a poncy sort of activity to me, not when men like my Father and the Lestrange brothers and Ari Baddock did it and seemed to enjoy it, too.
So Weasley, well, I reckon it makes sense he's never been exposed to that sort of thing. I'm more surprised about Smith, though.
Re: Private message to Draco
Date: 2011-12-13 02:24 am (UTC)I justDid Smith have etiquette classes and the rest? It certainly doesn't show, if he did.
Re: Private message to Draco
Date: 2011-12-13 02:43 am (UTC)About Smith, I'd doubt it. He's pureblooded, but not in the cultured Wiltshire way. More in the "hole up in the North country and listen to quidditch on the wireless and drink lager" way.
Re: Private message to Draco
Date: 2011-12-13 03:13 am (UTC)That's about what I'd figured, about Smith.

Date: 2011-12-13 02:55 am (UTC)Ron Weasley, Zacharias Smith, Linus Moon, Seamus Finnigan, Michael Corner, Gregory Goyle, Vincent Crabbe, and Theodore Nott - what's wrong with you? Even if you don't have a sense of romance or one jot of rhythm, couldn't you at least look at the Ball as a school-wide event in which we are playing hosts to our foreign guests? From that angle, isn't it wise if you at least make an effort?
This is just like the play all over again.
I suppose Linus Moon and Theodore Nott deserve a little credit for at least having asked girls who already happened to have dates, and thus had to turn them down.

Date: 2011-12-13 03:20 am (UTC)Who'd want to go with a boy who's just going to refuse to dance? Honestly.

Date: 2011-12-13 03:51 am (UTC)Only this is dancing.
Are you saying we ought to all be taking foreign girls? Which of them hasn't been asked yet?
no subject
Date: 2011-12-13 04:00 am (UTC)You don't have to take a foreign girl; I think it's more important to be supportive of the idea itself as a student representative of Hogwarts.
Do you want me to help you find a date? I wouldn't object.
Private Message to Daphne Greengrass
Date: 2011-12-13 04:28 am (UTC)I mean, not Bullstrode, all right? I know you room with her and all, but, yeah.
It'd be all right if it was one of the foreign ones
cause they're leav, but not that one Durmstrang witch with the one eyebrow and the birthmark.Re: Private Message to Daphne Greengrass
Date: 2011-12-13 04:36 am (UTC)So, tell me more about what you consider "someone good." Do you like blondes or brunettes? Tall or short? Ample chested or slight? Talkative or stoic? Curly or straight?
Re: Private Message to Daphne Greengrass
Date: 2011-12-13 04:42 am (UTC)Y'know, on second thought, I think I'll just work on this myself.
Er. Thanks, though.

Date: 2011-12-13 02:37 pm (UTC)I'm not sure who Delacour's going with, no one in Beauxbatons seems to know. Archimbault's asked Anderson, just last night. Toubon means to ask Calderwood, I think. I'm pretty sure everyone else from Beauxbatons has dates.
Oh, and someone said this morning that Poliakoff and Tupolov are still looking for girls to ask. Poliakoff might have better luck if he'd make sure he hasn't spilled something on his robes before asking anyone.
And if any boys are looking for girls, I heard Katla Knopf is still available. If you dare to ask her!

Date: 2011-12-13 03:09 pm (UTC)Is that really all the foreigners who are left? That still leaves a lot Hogwarts students without dates, but then I suppose if they just ask each other, problem solved.
no subject
Date: 2011-12-13 03:16 pm (UTC)And I guess a couple of them were already dating (like Ivanovich and Alexandrova) and there's at least one pair where one of them is from Durmstrang and the other from Beauxbatons.
I think Evgeni might still be waiting to figure out who to ask as well.
But after all there's only a week to go, or nearly!
Has anyone heard who's playing yet?
