Can we please transfer my mother to Saltash?

Or - all right, perhaps not that. But is there really any reason for her to have her journal? What purpose is served in having her write to Barty Crouch Jr. about who-knows-what? She seems to believe that her writing to Barty "helps me," though I fail to see how it possibly could. If I ever have to cross wands with Crouch, he'll not hesitate to kill me, given that he murdered his own wife. Mother's delusional if she really believes that Barty will be able to protect Hydra, if it came down to that.

And as for her façade of not having turned against the Protectorate, and cloistered herself away merely to keep Bellatrix out - what exactly is to be gained by such antics? In what way does having her carry on in the journals as loyal benefit us? It's not as if Crouch will let any important intel slip out. Hydra's around him all the time and she still hasn't legilimised anything good out of him.

Most likely she just can't stand the thought of being known for having a traitor son, and fears guilt-by-association.

Did you ask to see what she wrote?

I am willing to speak to her to attempt to convince her, but I doubt that she would listen to me; she has never found me anything more than a nuisance. Perhaps your father could be persuaded to persuade her?

I agree that it is unlikely she will escape sanction, given how events have happened, should she ever leave the boundaries of the Fidelius. That alone may help to convince her.

I've been talking to Draco a little more, in person, it's ever so much easier to calm him down that way. From the sound of it, she's got no intention of trying to betray us. She said she was doing it to help us, actually.

I'm not sure what you'd be trying to convince her about, but he did admit that she told him, she's completely aware that her life as she knew it is over.

He's always hated Crouch. I think he's just upset because she spoke to him at all, after he murdered Daphne.

I mean. He's not wrong. But it's not her fault if she still feels some empathy for Crouch.

Plus, I think he's trying not to admit that he's afraid that if Daphne couldn't succeed as a double agent, his mother surely can't, either. He'd rather think that he hates her and doesn't care what happens to her. Which is bollocks, of course, because if he didn't care, he wouldn't give a toss about her writing to anyone.

I think it's best to just let him have his rant. If we're really worried, we can ask to see what she wrote, I suppose.

I understood that Narcissa remained at Malfoy Manor both because she refused to entertain the thought of withdrawing to Saltash, and because we did not wish to burden Saltash with the prospect of accepting another prisoner. It would make no sense to begin the negotiations with Saltash about whether they would accept her if she would refuse to go.

It is understandable that Draco has drawn a bright line in this matter. He can be unforgiving of what he sees as weakness, and it is all too easy for him to view emotion as weakness.
