DRACO MALFOY continues working as an Auror in the years immediately following the war, and makes a number of donations and investments to help fund rebuilding efforts. Gradually, his field duty slides into more and more administrative roles, and after he marries Hermione Granger (who keeps her own name with no argument from him), he begins his political career in earnest, with his sights set to one day serve as Head of State. His speeches are full of clever anecdotes and wisdom that is inspired by Severus Snape, Sirius Black's Grim Truths, and his own wife.

His political career is successful, though not without the occasional hiccup or scandal, as is to be expected! He and Hermione have one child, a daughter named Abigail, whom they love dearly but sometimes struggle to fit into their very busy, independent lives.

Draco and Hermione spend the rest of their days calling Malfoy Manor home, though Hydra (with Charlotte and Rigel) finds her own place a year or two after the war. They all remain close, in addition to finding a role for Narcissa and Lucius that somehow works.

Politics and War Heroism aside, Draco's greatest achievement (in his opinion) is a 3-part series of graphic novels about Harry Potter.

In the years immediately following the war, several books are written about Harry. Draco is increasingly depressed and frustrated at how much they get wrong, at how they mythologise Harry in exactly the way he would be uncomfortable with. So, Draco takes it upon himself to set the story straight. The graphic novel series begins in Harry and Draco's childhood under the spectre of the Lord Protector, then stretches through their school-years with Hermione, ISS, and the Order, all the way to the end of the war. Although Harry is arguably the Protagonist, the story is told from Draco's perspective, and features frequent meta-circumlocutions about the nature of storytelling, about who/what gets remembered, and why.

During the three years it takes for Draco to complete his books, he consults with a number of all the old Order members to make sure that they are OK with the version of events he's portraying. He and Ron, especially, enjoy reminiscing about their childhood rivalry over pints at the pub.

The graphic novel series, called Albion's Son, is a critical and commercial success. Draco doesn't care about that so much, though. He just wanted the story told.

The dedication reads:

To all of Albion's fallen sons and daughters. And to Harry, who taught me how to make toast, just for starters...

comments

Hey, you lot!

Welcome to my home, which I hope from now on you'll all consider your home, as well.

It's ours. All of this is.

The last time there was a party here, the guest list was assuredly the crème de la crème. Think fur-trimmed dress robes, nose-sculpting charms, potency potions, and catty New London gossip, far as the eye can see. And pure blood, of course. Purest you can find.

Now I look out and see something I've never seen here before. Purple-haired weirdos, people missing a limb or two, scars on parade, some seriously questionable accessorising, and tattered and posh robes in equal measure. I see muggle-loving weasles, muggleborns and muggles chatting with purebloods, and halfbloods everywhere. And the twisty part is, as I was looking about, I realised I had to think about it before I remembered who was what and who was who.

Possibly this is also because I've had a bit of champagne.

But what I'm saying is: we're all here together. Everyone looks pretty happy, even though there are still things to be gutted about.

Everyone we've lost would want us to celebrate, and raise a toast to them. And to ourselves, as well.

So, chin chin!

Now, who wants to come up to the roof and have a ride on Sinbad's flying motorbike?

comments

Hey,

Thanks for coming with me last night. We did all right, yeah? Not a bad team.

I mean, maybe you don't think so, seeing as we didn't actually stop Sirius and Remus from killing themselves.

I've been having a think about it, though, and I know it's what they wanted. Maybe not to die, exactly, but to have it be over. Once and for all. Sirius was in a dark place and I recognised it because I was there, too, not so long ago. And he was one of you lot, a Gryffindor, and I think he just hated feeling like he hadn't done enough. Which was rubbish, of course, but how do you tell someone "no, your feelings are wrong," especially with someone like that?

So what I'm saying is that they chose, you know. Like Harry did.

And... as I'm writing this I realise that you're a Gryffindor, too, and it probably all makes perfect sense already.

comments

When I was at the castle early yesterday morning to pick up Hermione, I noticed that there were some trunks and things shoved out into the hallways. I guess people are trying to get organised for the big move out.

I don't know what kind of discussion you've all had in private, but have you made a decision on where the Albion government and MLE will be headquartered once the school term starts? Because there's something to be said for making a legitimising and lasting impression. Even Riddle recognised that when he took Buckingham for himself.

Anyway, if you haven't settled on a HQ yet, I thought I would offer up Malfoy Manor. It's certainly big and grand enough for that purpose. And there are plenty of rooms, for those who are still displaced or don't feel safe moving into a regular flat somewhere.

Let me know what you decide, yeah?

comments

He makes very few entries, as well, but follows quite a few people.

A bit ago he got a PM from Jason Montague, who was in here last night with Finnigan, Troy Derwent, Alfred Montague, and Demetrius Martyn. They had a round of drinks and chatted about the reception for the Protectorate Security Society (more on that soon).

Montague didn't say a word to me last night other than to order drinks for everyone. But in his message he seems overly familiar. Said he might stop by some night when I'm closing alone, like "last time." And then he asked if it had been seven or eight months ago, and could I refresh his memory?

Essentially I can't tell if I (as Russell) am being propositioned or if I'm under suspicion.

comments

Something's happening in New London. I've only been on shift an hour and there's already been several people in the club talking about a new "Protectorate Security Society." They all seem to be a little confused about what it means, but from what I've gathered, there's some kind of event at the Palace of Westminster tomorrow, and nearly everyone under the age of 25 has been invited.

Russell's too old, so he wasn't invited. Some of my co-workers were, though. Tamsin, Corbet, and Felicia. I should be able to find out more from them after tomorrow.

Also, it's definite: Lana Sandoval-Pennifold has been put in as head of the Protectorate MLE.

comments

Our news outlets are reporting that Barty Crouch Jr. was the subject of a 3-day manhunt that culminated in his being pursued and killed by Auror Hydra Finch-Fletchley.

Their news outlets (what's left of them) are reporting that "the recent crime spree has met its end thanks to the hard work of Protectorate MLE forces." No details beyond that.

Hydra had Crouch's wand on her last night, so I snapped it and sent it to Bellatrix, along with a note that said "from your daughter" (Bellatrix will know it's my handwriting, but that's fine. Better, actually). It's possible that Bellatrix thinks that Hydra is dead, too, based on Hydra's open journal post last night, and the fact that I was the one who sent her the wand and not Hydra herself.

I went with Unit 3 to do a sweep of the Forest this morning before returning to my assignment in New London. In the North-West quadrant we found the body of a Unicorn. It had been killed with ritual dark magic - sacrificed, basically. Crouch's last victim, we think.

Hydra's still in the HW with a persistent fever and other injuries, and F-F is with her.
Update for anyone who's not heard:

Hermione's out of St. Mungo's and back in the Order's care.

Once Faust's shift was done I went back to StM's and relieved Hydra. At about 4:30 in the morning a female Healer came along and indicated she had been sent by Poppy Pomfrey and Albus Dumbledore. I was under the cloak but it was clear she'd been told someone unseen would be in the room. The healer wheeled Hermione out of the room while I followed, wand out. We ran into only a few people along the way, but the healer had enough authority to wave away any of their questions without trouble. Eventually we ended up in a sort of loading docks area where supplies come in. It's outside the anti-apparation wards. The healer checked whatever spells were on Hermione and said she'd be safe to side-along apparate, so that's what I did. I took Hermione to the Manor and through the co-location box into the Secret Room. She's now resting in the HW.

I need to get more sleep before I'm back to New London tonight, so if you have questions don't be surprised if I don't answer straight away.

comments

<strike>Dear Ha</strike>
Harry.

I almost wrote the PM to you, but changed my mind. Not sure I want the others to see that.

I'm writing this over cold tea and burnt toast. I've got better at not burning toast, but there's still a learning curve, apparently. This is what comes of having house elves wait on you your whole posh bloody life, and then having Snape do all the cooking after you exchange that posh life for another. It's not such a big deal, though. It's just toast.

I'm living in a bedsit in Holburn, polyjuiced as a bloke named Russell Faust. He's the bartender at the Elysian's lounge. It's an intelligence-gathering mission, though I've yet to pick up on anything devastatingly useful. Just a lot of tidbits here and there. Gossipy things that are no use to us (though Cal Pummel did come in and walk Tamsin Applebee home after her shift. She thinks he might really truly fancy her, poor girl).

Last night I worked the third shift. By 11pm the place was mostly empty. Will Montgomery and Rudyard Marks were the only ones in the lounge, chatting and having a nightcap. I overheard their chatting, though, and they were chatting about you.

It was sort of like having a Dementor brush by me.

I didn't flinch, I don't think. I just froze to the spot for a few seconds, then went back to what I was doing. It's the first time I've heard your name spoken outside of the castle. Harry Marvolo. They don't know you at all. Not even your real name.

They were talking about how Freedom from Tyranny Day was coming up and were wondering what DEMLE had planned for the occasion. They said it was too bad Harry Marvolo was gone, because you could have put a good face on things and got morale up.

Gone. As if you went on a seaside holiday. As if they don't even know what happened to you, what you did for them and for us.

They were just being idiots, but I think I wanted to kill them.

Don't worry, I didn't.

When I'm not working (like right now - I'm scheduled third shift again, later tonight) I'm sitting around with my own thoughts. Which I suspect is probably what I need and exactly what I don't want.

<strike>I'm still not</strike> <strike>I don't feel like</strike>

I suppose that's all there is to say for now.

Hermione misses you. So do I.

<strike>If there's any part of you out there that is able to read any of this can you just give me a sign. It doesn't have to be much. Just something</strike>

comments

Sorry I kept nodding off last night - I was utterly knackered from working those two shifts back to back. Funny, seeing as I've worked much harder and longer without sleep in the past and didn't feel so exhausted afterward. Maybe it's because I had so many details to keep track of in my head, because the work itself isn't overly difficult. Though it is different than what I'm used to. My hands are actually aching from washing so many glasses by hand.

So far Russell's descriptions of his co-workers has held true - mostly. The Chef is rather tyrannical but some of the insults he lobs are so creative that I have to fight the urge to laugh. The only other bartender I've worked with is Corbet Pugh, who's an alright bloke despite his Welsh accent that sounds so unnervingly like Teddy's. Oh and the gossipy waitresses, Tamsin and Felicia? Turns out they're Tamsin Applebee and Felicia Green, who were ahead of me at Hogwarts by a few years. Based on their work uniforms and minimal duties, I suspect that they were hired mostly for ornamentation. They deliver drinks out to the reading room or other parts of the club, and the suggestive comments that some of the male clientele make...
well, I'd say that I find it shocking, but it's not so different from what I remember hearing in that circle back when I was part of it.

Anyway, I didn't really get asked about much other than what I thought of the Little Venice festival, to which I gave them Faust's take on the event: "It was highly enjoyable, particularly the sight of so many New Londoners come together in loyalty and harmony." That got some nods of approval, though you could tell they didn't really care what Faust thought of the festival, they just wanted someone to parrot back their own perceptions. I'm prepared to endure a lot of exchanges like that.

You'd think the club would be quiet earlier in the week but it's actually been busy. Everyone wants to get a run on the course in after the weekend. Starting tomorrow, more people will be coming round just to socialise. My shift doesn't start until 6 today so I have the afternoon free to do Russell's shopping and reading.

Speaking of, I have Thursday and Sunday off, so I was thinking of sleeping at school tomorrow night. I already miss the smell of the castle, and the view of the lake, and especially you.

comments

The castle's secret room has conjured up a full bar and I've been practising making every cocktail that Russell Faust himself has ever served at the Elysian.

This includes the members' favourites, like Cad Mulciber's Vauxhall single malt (neat), Cal Pummel's lager, Pandora Baddock's vodka martini (up with a twist), and Rowle's pimm's cup (in summer, hot toddy in winter), and on and on and on.

I'm going to start living as Faust tomorrow, so this evening I'm running a final test of my bar skills and memory. If anyone wants to come by the secret room and pretend to be a thirsty pureblood twat, I'm sure it would help me out a great deal. I should note in advance that I'll be in full polyjuice or the occasion, and Russell Faust will be standing by to observe.

comments

So after two weeks of research, I've put together a profile on who I consider the most promising candidate so far. He's Russell Faust, who works as the bartender and manager of Elysian's on-site cafe and lounge. 31-years old, 'mostly pure,' owns a modest flat in Holborn.

There are a few things that make him particularly ideal for this assignment. His job allows him regular access to Death Eaters and DEMLE in an environment that they consider more or less secure. He is well-regarded by the clientele, even friendly with them, but from what I've seen he never oversteps any boundaries. He's good at anticipating their needs and knowing his place; his presence is calm and reassuring, not offensive in the least.

He has very few friends, only a handful of acquaintances, most of whom he works with. His parents are dead and he has no siblings, nor is he in any kind of relationship. When Hydra did her read on him, she noted that he's gay but not openly so, and that he has some shame and past trauma that makes him keep people at arms-length. This lack of close friendships and relationships means that there are few people who know him in any intimate way, which means there are fewer people to hoodwink.

But what makes him most ideal is the other piece that Hydra saw. Faust wants badly to get out of England. He has family in Austria that have already offered to take him in, he simply has no way to get over to the continent. He has a lot of growing doubts about the future of England and he also fears that the next time Bellatrix comes in, she might see those doubts and punish him for them.

If we offered to smuggle him out of the country, I think he would gladly hand over his identity, along with all the hair and fingernail clippings we need.

As far as whether or not Elysian's security wards will allow me access to the club, I already entered the establishment under my cloak and nothing happened. My guess is that my membership was never officially revoked, but Faust could probably tell me for sure, along with providing any information I would need to know about anti-polyjuice measures the club has in place.

I haven't approached him yet, but I will if you give the go-ahead.

comments

The creatures' paddock is located just where Padma said, about as far from the lodge as can be. Coming in no doubt set off the boundary wards, so I opened the paddock to cover my entry and flew South. The muggles are probably in the out building near the paddocks, but I couldn't count them. No windows.

I spotted five people heading down to the paddocks as I left. A combination of security and game-handlers, is my guess.

Initial sweep of the lodge shows sixteen. More staff than guests, from the looks of it.

The out building on the Eastern slope was empty but all the lights were blazing. Probably where the game handlers live.

The watch stations we saw - there's four of them - have a single warden each.

There's a barracks in a clearing behind the Northern lake shore with three maintenance workers.

The people I saw walking near the lodge were security, on patrol. I counted three but may have missed some.

Didn't see too many animals out in the open. Glimpsed one I mistook for an over-sized house elf, but I think it was a daraliznof freaazer.

I'm certain all the buildings are warded to some degree, the lodge more heavily so.

comments

A great big, grand party with loud music and dancing and loads of drinking and loose-morals aplenty (of the strictly Order-approved variety).

It can be a belated wedding celebration for Justin, Hydra, Ron, and Sally Anne, too. Not just a birthday party.

We'll hold it at the Manor. My house, that is.
I wish you were here so that I could ask you about last night's dream.

Most of them have been awful, but this one - Harry and I were getting ready for the rite, but it was like it had already happened, or something. The conversation wasn't filled with the awful dread that our last, real conversation had. We were in the room he was staying in, and we were trying to find the most traditional wizarding robes possible so that Voldemort wouldn't think anything was amiss when Harry handed himself over. And at one point, Harry held up a pair of muggle-styled blue jeans and said "I really wish I had worn these, instead. Wouldn't it be brilliant if Voldemort died wearing too-tight muggle blue jeans?" And then we both started laughing, and that woke me up. But I was able to fall asleep easier, after that.

And now I'm wondering if dead people can actually visit you in your dreams, or if that was just some unconscious projection of my own inner-Harry, or something. Trying to make light of the situation, you know. Trying to do what both of you wanted and move on, and forgive myself.

Because except for that dream, every day is harder.

I keep thinking about what I wish I'd done differently. How I wish I hadn't made it all about me. He was going to die and he must have been afraid but he never showed it. I should have comforted him. In his note he said to me "I hope you're able to forgive me for all this." And before we parted I told him I was all right with it, that I forgave him, only I don't think he believed me because why else would he write that? I should have made sure that he knew. I should have done so much more.

Most of the time I just feel nothing because that just seems better for everyone. I don't want to be the person who needs their hand held, or who falls apart because there's a crisis. And yet I feel profound loathing at the sight of anyone who isn't somehow suffering, or who hasn't sacrificed what we have. I feel ugly. It makes me want to do ugly things. It makes me want

Sorry. I didn't start out writing in this kind of mood, but it looks like that's what it's turning into.

Thank you for making sure that Hermione got her Mastery. Thank you for telling her that you loved her. She needs that, I'm sure. And thank you for saying to me what you did. It matters, and I hope wherever you are you know that.

See you later, maybe not long from now.

comments
