Since you don't keep your pranks or grudges private, I won't make this private, either:

The next time you decide you want to make Weasley look like a fool or enact some kind of revenge, you'd better not do it in any way that makes me look bad, too - or the team you're working with, for that matter.

Although I think we all know who came out of this one looking the fool.

Good show, Weasley. Especially given the circumstances.
alt_draco: (intently innocent)
Went for a fly this morning for the first time in some weeks. I must say that while this year has been packed with new and interesting activities, I really do miss quidditch. I especially feel for the 7th years who were looking forward to playing out their final season, only to discover that they'd already played it back in 6th year. Bit rubbish, that. But I suppose it can't be helped.

Seems a few folks are still feeling a bit low that they've not been invited to that Beauxbatons soiree. All I can say to that is: really? It's just a bit of faculty-supervised tea and mingling, not the second coming of the Yule Ball. I can't speak for other Houses, but there's usually more interesting things than that going on in the Slytherin common room on Saturday nights. Dancing in the music alcove, or even just listening to the wireless, along with snap and portkey at the game tables. So if you're feeling left out, just grab a mate and make something happen.

Off to the YPL/CCF Planning meeting in a bit. See the rest of you lot there.
alt_draco: (bitingly bewildered)
Sure loves to hear himself talk, that one. All that rot about teachers not noticing and taking action when it came to Finch-Fletchley, when really, if Finch-Fletchley had been taught any sort of decent lessons in dark arts or practical dueling, he would have been able to defend himself properly. But that one can't seem to fathom that when some bastard is coming at you with a deadly hex, your first thought probably isn't going to be about the "cultural structures" or "coercive powers" that made the bastard that way, but how to get him out of your face, and quickly. Sorry, but I'll hex first, think about the rest later.

And that bit about "inventing justification for deeds to the point of absurdity?" I don't know, but it reminded me of when we were five or six, Harry. Remember, they were still restoring Buckingham and parts of it were closed off to everyone, even you. And it was the first time my Father ever Cruciated me.

Granger, you weren't there then, so I'll explain. I'm talking about those semi-state rooms in the lower levels - I'm pretty sure that they're so heavily warded now that no one but Harry's Father can get into them, but back then they still didn't have everything set up, so all we knew was that if we wandered into that area, we'd get into terrible trouble.

So of course, that's exactly what we did. Harry wanted to explore and I was perfectly happy to go along with that sort of thing, back then. We ended up playing green ghost in some kind of trophy room, and I was wearing the blanket and Harry was hiding somewhere. I was bumbling around, blind as anything, and I tripped into a display case. A glass goblet fell over inside and smashed to pieces. It must have set off some kind of alarm spell, because we were trying to put the goblet back together when Yaxley caught us. Bloody nightshade, he scared me down to my toes back then. Still does, if I'm honest.

He marched us both off to the Lord Protector's chambers and both of our Fathers were clearly annoyed at being interrupted. There was a lot of questioning and hard words like "How could you be so disobedient?" Between that and Yaxley's dark expression, it was all terrible enough. But then, when the Lord Protector said that I needed to be punished for both of us, my Father almost seemed...well, I didn't know what to call it then, but I think "shocked" is what I'd call it now. Just that by the expression on his face I didn't expect him to do what he ended up doing. I thought he might pick me up and take me out of there - I even remember being sad, Harry, thinking I might not be able to play with you again for a long time.

But he didn't pick me up and take me out of there. Instead he sat me in the middle of the room and he Cruciated me.

I don't have to tell you how horrible it was. Well, not you at least, Granger. But the pain and the shakes and the tremors, none of it compared to how awful it felt to know that my own Father had just done that to me. And a few nights later I was crying to Mother about just that, and she said that Father had done it because he wanted to spare me what the Lord Protector would do to me if he hadn't.

I didn't believe it for a long time. But I believe it now. And my Father wasn't just inventing justification... there was, in fact, someone else who would have enjoyed it more, would have been more cruel, more vicious, and would have felt less remorse. No remorse, actually.

I don't know. I don't know what to say about "breaking the cycle" (and neither does that one, apparently - never gives a set of instructions, does he?). But it's pointless to sit and ponder change and the future when there are more important things bearing down now. There is no way out of anything when you're a kid.

So, what are you going to do when my Father expects you to cruciate Granger at the second task, Harry? Are you going to be able to do it?

Seems odd that so much of his post is relevant to that very question.
alt_draco: (stunningly slytherin)
Father - I want to thank you (and the other governors) for making last night such a brilliant and memorable event. Tintagel was epic and Pansy was thrilled. Everyone's still talking about it and not liable to stop anytime soon. I said my thanks to Mr Tenebridge last night but I've got a little something to send him for Christmas, as well.

Mother - You looked beautiful as always, and were as gracious as ever.

I'm going to miss the Manor this Christmas. It sounds like the party will really be something else, and of course spending time with you both is what I really look forward to. I've not stayed behind for hols since year two, when I threw that tantrum because you made me stay at the castle to keep from catching the plague. Ha, what a brat. Don't worry, I know now that you were only doing it out of concern.

Firechat on Christmas?

Hope the party goes spectacularly.

Love,
Draco

We were thinking of having a bit of a lad's night tonight, just to celebrate the end of exams and get in some good male bonding before taking to the dance floor tomorrow. Seems most of the girls will be together making adjustments to their dress robes and experimenting with hair charms, so why not?

Gamp and Vaisey are in, which means refreshmen butterbeer. I have the latest issue of Quidditch Weekley Deluxe, which has full-colour photographs from Sunday's Appleby v. Wimbourne match (what a cob-up that was - epic use of porskoff ploy for Wimbourne, though). Might bring along some other reading material, too. Cards a must.

Meet up at the usual place, 'round eight or so. Anyone interested can show - even you, Smith.
alt_draco: (warily watchful)
Was that all about? For those of you who weren't in Professor Raz's dueling session this afternoon, Millie and Daphne had some kind of row that ended with Daphs in a fury and Millie's face all purple and bulging. It looked she'd been dipped in a pot of porphyry fruit jam. Ugh, hopefully there won't be any porphyry tarts at supper tonight. I don't think I could stomach them after that.

I'm dead confused, I don't mind saying. Is this some kind of pent-up Yule Ball aggression coming out? Daphs can be a pretty wicked duelist but she's typically more controlled than that, and certainly pretty forgiving of Millie - no matter what she does.
alt_draco: (stunningly slytherin)
Did you know that Cho Chang was seeing Cedric Diggory? I didn't. Trouble is, neither did Harry. So to make a massively long and complicated story more manageable:

Harry asked Cho to the Ball.
Cho said Yes.
Harry found out that Cho only said Yes because he's Harry Mavolo.
Harry found out that Cho fancies Cedric and vice-verse.
Harry suggests that Cho go to the Ball with Cedric instead (response pending).
Harry asks me who he should ask if Cho wants to go with Cedric.
Hydra and Millie are ruled out. For different reasons. As is Parvati.
Brocklehurst is pondered as an option.
Which is where you come in.

Do you think Mandy Brocklehurst would want to go with Harry? I reckon you know her a bit from those strange tea events that you go to every so often. Is she still without a date or has someone asked her since I posted my list last night?
alt_draco: (intently innocent)
Since I reckon a few blokes are going to be feeling a bit regretful that they took so long to open up their eyes to the fact that dancing is neither naff nor poncy, I figure it might be helpful if we compiled a list of people who are still without a date, just to make it easier for them to find one another, if they so choose.

Because get this: dancing with a girl is actually the opposite of poncy, as it so happens.

Who else have I missed? I didn't include third-years, but some of them might be available. If anyone knows about the students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, you can add their names here, too.
alt_draco: (fabulously focused)
Harry, since you've sent her a private message, I'm assuming that Granger has her journal back and can now speak, too.

Granger, that means I'm supposed to Imperius you to say "Master" after every sentence you say or write.

Sorry, but you know there's no choice about this. I figure that making the curse last a few days should be enough, and then it'll be over.

We can do it after breakfast, before our first lesson.
alt_draco: (fabulously focused)
I told Blaise that I have an essay to write, and that's why I'm not down in the common room celebrating. I've gone to the library, instead. So if anyone else asks, could you just tell them that I spent so much time working on the banners and flags that I got behind in my homework?

Father's furious with me. Harry, too. He almost seemed as angry as he was when we freed that stupid hippogriff. I suppose in that case I'm lucky that all he did was order me to write an essay on the inferiority of mudbloods. Normally that would be easy enough, but he says if it's not thorough or convincing that he's going to talk to Mr Tenebridge about taking my name off the credits for "Hey, Hey Merlin." He also said I have to Anyway, hopefully that won't happen.

Harry's been punished too, by the way. But I wouldn't ask him about it, if I were you.

Banner day

alt_draco: (stunningly slytherin)
I and some of the others stayed up late last night to make banners and flags for our champions. Most of them are for Harry, seeing as he's from our house, but a few are more general in theme, with the Hogwarts crest and such.

So if you want one, come see me, Pansy, or Sally Anne to see if we have any extra.

GO HARRY! GO SLYTHERIN!
GO HOGWARTS!
alt_draco: (righteously regal)
I was surprised to read the Head Girl's announcement about bullying, as I haven't noticed any behaviour that's more out of line from what we usually see at Hogwarts. But apparently others have noticed, which is unfortunate, given that we currently have guests whose impression of Hogwarts matters a great deal to some of us. Now that such a bright glaring light has been shined on the matter, we can only hope that it will soon die down.

If there are any first-year or visiting students who want to test out their spellcasting skills in an approved environment, they ought to consider attending duelling club on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Also, the NEWT students have duelling club on the first and third Tuesday, and they don't usually mind having an audience. Some of them have developed some dead impressive wand-work, too, which means it can be quite a show some nights.

So yeah, haven't seen this so-called bullying, but I have seen what Krum's been enduring. Last night I was on my way show him and some of the other Durmstrang students our quidditch trophies, when Marjoram Montague and Effie Stevens literally leapt out of the Armour Gallery while waving Bulgarian pennants and shouting the Bulgarian fight song. They had also charmed their hair to be white blond for some reason...to look like Veela? That's all I can figure, though they were just a bit far off on the resemblance.

It was possibly the most hideous spectacle I have ever witnessed. We all had our wands out in an instant - that's just what you do when someone jumps out from behind a suit of armour - and their faces went utterly white. And then when they saw Krum's expression - well, they figured out right quick that not a single one of us was amused. Stevens burst into tears and went wailing in the other direction, and Montague muttered an apology before scurrying off the same way. And then I had to apologise to Krum for their antics.

If people would stop being idiots being so ridiculous in the first place, we'd all be better off. Hopefully there won't be any incidents like that this weekend.

And speaking of - Harry and I will probably help with the set up after supper. Anyone else from CCF interesting in joining?
alt_draco: (awfully affronted)
I can't say that I much cared for you. It's not that I disliked you, but you never had much to say to me, despite the fact you were always around.

But I wish you hadn't been murdered. It's put Mother off the deep end. I guess it's just too much after Regulus, after Father almost dying twice, and then the attack on her, too...

But you're dead anyway, so, that's just how it will be now.

FU

This is pointless.
alt_draco: (politely perturbed)
Father,

A lot of people have seen the Prophet's evening edition tonight, and so have I.

I wanted to write to Mother straight away, but then I thought I should ask you, first. Tell me the truth: how is she faring?

Your son,
Draco
alt_draco: (stunningly slytherin)
It's been a full week back, that's to be said. Along with all the talk about the Triwizard announcement, a lot of people have been asking me if I can teach them to speak French. All I can say to that is that if I had that kind of free time, I'd be some kind of professor or something. But for those of you that already have SOME kind of conversational knowledge of the language, I was thinking of forming a weekend afternoon group where we can just practise talking to each other while drinking tea or something. I'm a bit rusty myself, but when she was here I spoke to my Aunt Amanda almost entirely in French, so I've already gotten some good practise in in the last few weeks.

Along those lines, me and the lads on the Slytherin quidditch team have agreed that it'll be important to keep up with our flying, even with quidditch cancelled for the year. If any of the other house teams want to arrange some impromptu pick-up matches, talk to me or Harry or anyone else on the Slytherin team.

Has anyone else noticed how much nicer the food is at school, compared to last year? The elves must have stepped up their efforts, now that we'll be hosting guests. Or maybe they're getting better food and ingredients - anyway, something's definitely different.
alt_draco: (carefully cautious)
It's hard to believe that something so good can end in a way that's so bad.

Up until the explosion, yesterday was one of the snitchest days I've ever had. I was with my family and friends, we were watching the Quidditch World Cup, which I didn't think I'd ever get to see here in England, and to top it all off, everyone else was invited, too. Who would want to ruin that? My Father was hurt. He should be alright, but he was lucky. Not everyone was.

Aunt Bellatrix was one of the ones leading the demonstration. I sort of wish I could have joined her and all the rest of them, but I'm not of age, so I couldn't.
alt_draco: (stunningly slytherin)
Clearwater,

I'd like to be one of the first to extend an unofficial congratulations to you; word was flying around during CCF that you'll be our Head Girl when the term starts. It just goes to show that you and Percy Weasley are a suitable match - or will be, so long as you bring as much honour and good judgement to the position as he did.

Most sincerely,

Draco Malfoy
alt_draco: (stunningly slytherin)
Now that was an intense day. When they portkeyed us to New London I actually though for a split-second that they might not give us a challenge today, but I knew that couldn't be right and, sure enough, they finally had me and Harry head up our own teams. (Harry and I had sort of counted on that happening some time before CCF was over, so we were ready for it.)

From what I've gathered it sounds like both teams had the same challenges but in different orders. Our team started at Trafalgar Square and really, the hardest part was picking only two people to do each challenge, without knowing what the next challenge would be. It looks like both teams did really well, though - Harry, I found out the official time and you lot only arrived at the arch a little over three minutes after we did.

So well done all around, really. I think all who were involved accomplished a great deal and have a lot to be proud of.

That said, I can't wait to get home tonight and sleep in a familiar bed. Might not get out of it for the next few days, even.
alt_draco: (warily watchful)
I told Blaise I was going to rest before lunch was over, but since you're still out there I'll just write this now, before we get too busy to discuss it. Plus I don't want any of those CCF officials to overhear us.

Don't you think it's a bit funny that they haven't chosen either of us to be team leaders yet? And since pretty much everyone always picks us both together (guess they're afraid we'll be hacked if we get split up, or something), I'd bet a load of galleons that the plan is to end the whole training session by having us square off against each other. What do you reckon?
alt_draco: (stunningly slytherin)
Blaise: Pucey, Montague and the others agreed to meet us at the Ouroboros course at nine. Any of the rest of you lads in CCF are welcome to join, if you can make it. We'll be running the course from 9:30-12:00, steam and massage from 12:00-1:00, then a luncheon in the club restaurant just after. If we make it back to Kensington by 3:00 that should leave us plenty of time to rest and clean up for the evening's events.

Everyone else, the festivities will start at 5:00. Make sure you bring your invitation, because you can't get in without it. The gardens will be closed off the public so we'll have the run of the place. Oh, and bring a bathing costume if you want to swim in the fountains, and a broom if you fancy a fly.
